The portrait features Hengrave Hall, famously called Suffolks premier wedding venue. It's a Grade 1 listed building - A Tudor Mansion - set in 350 acres (includes a rose garden, more on that later) and is, simply, the most romantic wedding venue in East Anglia.

The Hengrave Hall portrait was originally a watercolour painting, what you are purchasing is a reproduction of my original artwork. It depicts the beautiful grounds of Hengrave Hall, within the beautiful Suffolk landscape. The Hengrave Hall painting itself is muted and soft, with an airy appearance that makes it feel romantic and ethereal. The perspective of Hengrave Hall is straight on, I chose this because I felt it had the most impact - it is such a splendid building I didn't want to draw it from an angle or with an altered perspective. I wanted the emphasis to be the size and statue of the building.

Hengrave Hall is a beautiful Tudor house in Suffolk, England. It's been used as a wedding venue since the early 20th century, including Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan, Rachel Riley and Jamie Gilbert. The gardens host over 1000 David Austin roses. Hengrave Hall is very meaningful to me, and it was an absolute delight to illustrate this "jewel in Suffolks crown".
During lockdown I began to trace my family tree and I'd always believed my grandmother was born in Canada, the assumption was she was Canadian. In the process of tracing our family tree I discovered my great-grandfather was born in Bury St Edmonds and visited Canada on a visa as an engineer. My grandmother was born in Canada, during his work contract, and stayed for many years before returning to Bury St Edmonds - when the contract ended. We were able to trace our family history across Suffolk, I wonder if they knew this marvellous building and would recognise it from my drawing.
